A little bit about me…

Hello and welcome to my portfolio site, This is where I collate and archive some of my favoured work throughout my creative career. As time progresses I upload new projects that demonstrate my constantly expanding skill set and archive other projects for personal reference.

As a person I have a curious and adventurous spirit that is carried through both my personal and professional life. I am always looking to push my abilities, learn new skills, meet new people and help those are looking to do the same.

Besides being a creative I have a keen interest in motorcycles and climbing, which you may have figured out from some of my personal projects. Due to the nature of my career I spend a great amount of time sat at a desk so in my down time I seek out inspiration away from a screen.

Starting by studying graphic design at university I learnt the basics of branding, logo design, editorial and much more that I have only expanded and improved upon over the years. This solid base knowledge gave me the tools to get to where I am today and I still seek to improve my abilities further.

Throughout my career I have worked on a vast amount of projects, originally starting with a heavy focus on print and then progressing forward into more digital based media as my career progressed. Starting my career in a print shop I have a great background understanding of the print process and how the final printed product is created behind the scenes. This is incredibly useful when planning out timescales for printed projects and to envision what the final product will look like.

I have also created printed advertorials and advertisements to be published in national newspapers and magazines, such as the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, TV Times and even some of the BBC titles (my favourite was BBC Good Food.) Having an understanding of the print requirements for each publication is vital to ensure that the best quality print is achieved, it’s surprisingly not as straight forward as pressing print for national publications. Each newspaper and magazine is printed on different paper, resulting in different quality print and each needs a different file output. Not to mention the deadlines with national press is the most strict I have come across so far but I have managed to build a good friendship with each supplier and I can occasionally get some wiggle room.

Besides the vast amount of printed project I have worked on I have also been involved in a number of digital projects. Although not greatly evident in my portfolio lineup I have created numerous animated social posts and display ad banners. Going from print to animated was initially a challenge because of print needing all the information on one page, where as animation can split the information into segments. Once I grasped the hierarchy of information creating the information segments became a breeze and animating is time consuming, yet fun, process with lots of potential for creative flair.

Along side animation I have also delved into UI and UX, a passion that I do want to expand further into. A recent project meant that I was handed a great amount of customer research for a website refresh, this information included age demographics, heat maps, top 10 pages and much more that proved invaluable for creating updated design. This research lead project meant that I was creating the best outcome for the customer, thus in turn, creating a more effective website for the company.

Thank you if you read through my brief background, if you haven’t already I would like to invite you to take a look through my portfolio page. My personal favourites are Home Comforts, a lovely editorial project, my Climbing Badges, an ongoing personal illustration project and House of Beards, a branding and web design project.
